I'll be that guy

Since nobody (Donny Marshall, Gary Tanguay, Mike Gorman, Tommy Heinsohn and Doc Rivers included) wants to play the Belichik/Parcells role, I will. Granted Rondo did some things tonight that made me downright giddy. But if I’ve learned anything from the Bills it’s this: never settle for mediocrity and always find something to criticize. Belichik is the best at this. He could depress you after a Super Bowl victory. However, in tonight’s case it’s not that hard. THE CELTICS HAD 37 TURNOVERS! And Tommy hasn’t quite sold me on his “turnovers are inconsequential on an up tempo team” theory. It’s the preseason. Let’s all just calm down. A couple of years ago I finally joined a fantasy baseball league. In the process I sent an e-mail to a more experienced friend. He responded with a 2000 word manifesto in less than a day. Needless to say his pursuit of a useless PhD is slowly creeping up on 5 years. That said he had some good advice on preseason stats and performance:

“If your draft is after spring training, which it probably should be, don't overvalue spring training stats. John Mabry led both leagues in home runs either last year or the year before. It's like preseason football; some guy out of Ball State rushes for 95 yards and two scores in garbage time and you never hear from him again.”

I think this advice transcends fantasy leagues into the NBA itself.

6 Final thoughts:

1. Can we give Scalabrine’s minutes to Powe?
2. Tommy redefines the term “homer” and I love it.
3. The Raptors will be intriguing this year.
4. I’m not convinced Tony Allen is all the way back yet.
5. I may be alone on this one but I dream of Gerald Green single handedly sparking some sort of on going Celtics/Raptors feud. It would be the best feud to hit the Boston sports scene since the surreal Red Sox/D Rays fiasco, which never, ever made any sense.
6. I am officially concerned by the Cousy/Rondo comparisons. We’re getting closer and closer to complete senility with Tommy. I’m just glad to be along for the ride.

Coming Friday: A day in life of CelticsBandwagon, culminating with my attendance at the C’s/Cavs rematch.
