The Truth?

TrueHoop dropped Jay-Z’s new NBA commercial with the quick blurb “The part owner of the Nets didn't even have to get out of his car to make this commercial." It seems innocent enough. Everyone’s favorite soon to be unretired rapper/media mogul is chauffeured around in the back of a car. In the process he describes the challenge of being a superstar in the NBA while Kobe highlights appear at various points. No big deal? To the untrained eye that is. Alas there is something far more sinister going on here. It all has to do with Jay-Z’s final words: “I believe that is the truth.” Now we can debate what he means by the truth: Kobe, superstars excelling despite the targets on their backs, sleeping with Beyonce, whatever. But it is clear that Shawn Corey Carter, a Paul Pierce look a like no less, is not talking about #34. This is an outrage. Shaq did not anoint Pierce The Truth for nothing. My only consolation is that somewhere Tommy Heinsohn, despite having no idea what is going on, is furious.

When it comes down to it you have to stick with "Who wants to sex Mutumbo?" over "Are you ready for Maggete?" any day of the week?
